Not blocked, just sneezing

4th April 2020—procrasti-blogging

The idea with this blog is that this was going to be a once-a-month type of deal politely updating the progress of the study and informing those interested of what a journey through a PhD might look like.

Here’s the thing:

I am in full procrastination mode today; I’ve posted on Insta and Facey. I’ve sent a few emails. I’ve even considered making a phone call or two (for a phone-avoider, this is just crazy-talk).

Sure. I can blame it on coronavirus, on being stuck at home, on it being school holidays, on having just spent four months on leave away from people and/or on the rain.

I’ve been reading The Midnight Disease by Alice Flaherty (2004) and it sounds like I am definitely suffering from the writer’s block / hypergraphia duo she talks about in chapter three. In fact…

I’ve got it. I know I have. See? I’m stuck on my academic writing but totally verbose in everything else. Vomiting words up all over my saving-it-for-something-special, new blog. It’s like that meme that got stuck in my head and now I Brick Heck whisper to myself “Is that you rona?” every time I sneeze.

everytime i feel a tingle in my throat

Okay. So maybe my sudden case of writer’s block / hypergraphia only started a half hour ago when I absentmindedly picked up Flaherty as a break from working on the DSM-5’s definition of trauma.

Sure. It’s taken me most of the day to get four hundred words down. But they are sort-of referenced and a little bit crafted and will probably do for now as I think about things more.

Oh, that’s right…sneezing isn’t a symptom of coronavirus.

Just a bit of hay fever then.
